It's been a while since I went out often enough to make good use of my shoe collection. Thanks Covid. I wondered the other day if I might be over collecting heels, and then I remembered that I still don't have a green pair, and thought that I'm probably not over it.
I had been looking at a particular pair since my
fascination first began, and each time I bought shoes I ended up
choosing a different pair (for various reasons). Surprisingly this style
is still available, but in limited sizes. I have a very common sized
foot apparently, and one of the sizes to sell out first. This is the
only time I wish I had tiny feet.
Seven years ago I discovered that high heels really
aren't that impossible to walk in and are available in many wonderful
styles and colours. The night that realisation dawned I made a new
friend.
A friend had invited me to a shoe party (like a Tupperware
party, but with shoes instead of plastic storage containers) - I know, I
was intrigued too. Not being much of a shoe girl (at that stage of my
life if I had one pair of shoes that would suit absolutely every
occasion I would have been happy) I went along for the social outing and
toyed with the idea of buying knee high boots for a fancy dress
costume. Even if you don't like shoes you have to concede that Wonder
Woman loses some of her je ne c'est quoi if she's not wearing the
boots.
At the end of the evening I had a pair of white Go-Go
boots and a Fairy Shoe Mother. (Thanks Leanne for coining that term for
our wonderfully unique friend.) Not only does she have excellent advice,
she has an uncanny online shopping ability. She's brilliant at cross
checking prices, returns policies, size guides and generally just
knowing where to find what you're looking for. My first purchase (with
her help) was a pair of navy heels with white trim for a 1950s High Tea
Bridal Shower, and I just loved how I felt when I was wearing them. (I just wish I could run in them like Agent Carter.)
I think that's the point of heels, beautiful clothes,
fabulous jewellery and even stunning headwear - you feel majestic. Being
beautiful comes from inside I believe. It's more about how you feel
about yourself than how you appear to others. If you are comfortable in
your own skin and feel confident and capable you carry yourself well.
When you feel that way about yourself you're more likely to treat others
well too. Truly beautiful people help others feel that way also.
Over the last year or so I have begun collecting funky
earrings as well. My collection mostly comprises foodstuffs - because,
honestly, how can you not love miniature reproductions - it's like
having dolls house food hanging from my ears. This weekend I'm sporting
hot cross buns and creme eggs for Easter.
Here's my twelve favourite pairs of heels. I was going to buy myself plants for Easter, but
thinking about heels has me wondering if I should search for the
military style heels in my size, look at the green rhinestone ones (I
have neither green heels, nor heels completely covered in rhinestones,
so they tick two boxes), or eat some chocolate and think a bit more
about it. The chocolate may win. It is Easter after all.
Here's last week's 52Frames submission. The theme was
Nature, and I was lucky enough to capture some mini beasts in the
garden. There's a ladybug on that flower as well as the bee about to land. I was still feeling quite fatigued (and still stuck at home), so
this was the perfect speed for me. My zinnias are going gangbusters
just now too. It's been lovely to spend some of the long weekend in the
garden.
Have a wonderful Easter everyone!
It's been quite a party, ain't it
