The Cherie Singularities**

3 February 2022

Who's ready for Back to School this coming Monday?

Me!

Cody, not so much, although he is keen to hang out with his friends and frequent the Tuckshop.  Sounds about right for an almost 13-year-old boy, right?  9 days to go until that milestone actually.  He'll be 13 on the 13th.  Random weird fact...We tend to remember number patterns and things in my family.  Mum remembers birthdays, odometer readings, number plates and phone numbers (especially ones with patterns), but can't remember what she rang to tell me.  Dad sent me a text the other morning to tell me that the date was 02/02/2022.  I was actually a bit miffed that he beat me to it! I'll get him on 22/02/2022.  I'm setting a very early alarm!

I was at a training day a little while back and we were all asked to share some random fact about ourselves that probably no one would know.  I didn't go with the number thing.  My random fact was that I eat Skittles in colour order.  The same order each time, from least favourite to favourite flavour.  I have to empty the packet into a container so that I can find all the yellow ones, then the orange ones, then green, and purple, and that should leave all red.  I know, it's odd that red Skittles are more appealing to me than purple Skittles.  I am an enigma.

Colour me amazed that I discovered last year that I am not the only person who does this bizarre thing!  Crazy!  What are the chances?  We disagreed on the order, but I was that pleased to find someone with the same eccentricity as me it doesn't matter.  I can't remember if she prefers the Sour ones as I do, or the Original... again, not important.  "Taste the rainbow", not fruit salad!  (For my two cents, the Original Skittles are the only ones worth bothering with if you can't get Sour.)

I have another idiosyncrasy... (probably heaps if I'm honest)...

During my Florist training I discovered that I have Trypophobia.  For me it's not a "fear", but I CANNOT stand looking at lotus pods.  I am fine with most other things that have a pattern of holes, but those pods give me the heebie-jeebies.  They are so far the only botanical material that I won't work with.  Antihistamine doesn't help with this discomfort the way it does with the hayfever that grasses cause.  Chatting with a work friend last year we found that we share this seemingly odd reaction.  Of course, as soon as we realised this we started sending each other photos of things we don't enjoy looking at.  More for the shared understanding of each other’s pain than the irritation of opening a message to see a holey monstrosity gaping at you, but maybe a little bit of that too.

What's your random weird quirk?

Do you colour match your pegs to the item you're hanging?

Do you have to have the television volume on an even number?

Maybe you collect odd things? (Says me, who had a collection of wallaby teeth when I was a kid. I found them all - no wallabies were harmed by me in the building of that collection.)

Share your singularities with me.  I was surprised to find mine are not all unique to me… except perhaps the wallaby teeth…

Last week's 52Frames subject was Minimalist.  The Extra Challenge was Nude, which I wasn't inspired to attempt - I was having enough trouble smoothing the crinkles out of the white backdrop that I used for this shot!  This week I'm struggling to find a subject for Black & White that has high contrast, textural detail and story elements.  I wonder if I could do something creative with Skittles besides eat them?

It's been quite a party, ain't it

Purple Fairy

**This is a nod to the format used for naming episodes of The Big Bang Theory.  In my research I couldn’t find a single episode that used “singularity”, although I think it would have been perfect.
